I am being relocated by my company to a new region away from the
headquarters office and will be working out of my new apartment. Should I
be able to get reimbursed by the company for the square footage of my home
office?
It's unlikely you will be able to collect "rent" from your company.
There's no rule or policy about this in general; it's a matter of how each
company treats it, but companies in general aren't paying that kind of
rent. In theory, and usually in fact, the telecommuter working at home
like this saves a considerable amount in expenses (gas, office clothing,
etc.) which offsets the home cost. And the reality is, you aren't laying
out any extra money for your apartment; you would have had that expense
anyhow.
